Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking a Pharmacy Technician II for the Inpatient Pharmacy in Hyde Park. You will prepare medications under the supervision of a pharmacist, rotate through all pharmacy areas, and support direct patient care for diverse populations.

Responsibilities include handling Omnicell stocking, IV and chemotherapy preparations, and assisting in training new staff. Must hold an Illinois Tech license and have at least one year of related experience.

Qualifications

• Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician License
• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
• IV room non-hazardous and hazardous compounding required
• Minimum of one year pharmacy experience, or completion of an ASHP approved technician course, or student enrolled in a college of pharmacy or University of Chicago
• Ability to work as a team player to accomplish optimal patient care
• Good communication skills to interact with patients and staff
• Considerable knowledge of basic pharmacy practices and procedures
• Considerable knowledge of medications and medical supplies
• Good knowledge of record keeping practices
• Successful completion of core technician competencies and yearly competencies
• Attention to detail
• Verbal communications skills
• Familiar with computers and keyboard usage
• Sensitivity to patient care issues in pharmacy

Responsibilities

• Transport medications and supplies to nursing units and clinics
• Load medications into Omnicell machines and restock shelves
• Rotate through all work areas of the pharmacy
• Triages phone communication and maintains workload records
• Prepare medications for dispensing under pharmacist supervision
• Prepare outpatient prescriptions and perform cashiering duties
• Assist in training new pharmacists and technicians
• Perform other duties as assigned by pharmacist or supervisor
