Job summary

Indiana University Health System in Indianapolis is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacy department under pharmacist supervision. You will handle inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, processing of medications, and medication histories.

Responsibilities include answering phones, taking refill orders, data entry, and preparing meds for pharmacist check and delivery. Requires HS diploma, Indiana tech license or in-training, and national certification within a year.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training or Indiana Pharmacy Technician License or intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
• Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy or in ASHP/ACPE accredited program.
• No criminal history related to drugs.
• Must have strong mathematical calculation skills and ability to learn basic pharmacy technician tasks under supervision.
• Ability to learn effective written and communication skills.
• Ability to learn customer service skills.
• Proficient typing and Microsoft Office usage.

Responsibilities

• Under pharmacist supervision, supports inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, processing of medications and supplies, specialty meds, and medication histories.
• Answer telephones, take refill orders, enter orders into system, and prepare medications for pharmacist check.
• Prepare medications for disbursement/shipment/delivery and maintain records.
• Assist with stocking prepackaged items, maintaining inventory, delivering supplies, and bulk compounding or IV solutions as needed.
• Work with pharmacy staff to minimize medication errors.

Description:

Under pharmacist supervision, supports the pharmacy department in one or more of the following areas: inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, processing of medications and supplies, specialty medications, and medication histories. Assists with all functions required for medication processing including answering telephones, taking refill orders, entering orders into system, preparing the medication for pharmacist check, preparing medications for disbursement/shipment/delivery. Key job duties may consist of handling supplies, stocking prepackaged items, maintaining inventory, delivering supplies, maintaining records, distributing supplies. May assist in bulk compounding and preparation of I.V. solutions. Works with pharmacy staff to minimize the potential for medication errors.

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Requires Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training OR Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
• Requires Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy or enrolled in or graduated from an ASHP/ACPE accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
• Requires the absence of criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
• Requires strong mathematical calculation skills.Requires ability to learn basic pharmacy technician skills in assigned areas and work under close supervision or under clearly defined procedures.
• Requires ability to learn effective written and communication skills.
