Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacy department under pharmacist supervision. You will assist with inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, medication histories, and processing workflows.

Role requires high school diploma or GED, Indiana tech license or training, and certification within one year. Strong math, typing, and communication skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Requires Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training or Indiana Pharmacy Technician License or intern status if enrolled in college of pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire if not enrolled in an accredited program.
  • No criminal history related to drugs.
  • Strong mathematical calculation skills.
  • Ability to learn basic pharmacy technician skills under supervision.
  • Ability to learn written and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn customer service skills.
  • Basic proficiency typing and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Under pharmacist supervision, supports inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, processing of medications and supplies, and medication histories.
  • Handle telephones, refill orders, enter orders into system, prepare medications for pharmacist check and for delivery.
  • Maintain inventory and records; deliver supplies and maintain documentation.
  • Assist in bulk compounding and IV solution preparation.
  • Work with pharmacy staff to minimize medication errors.

Description

Under pharmacist supervision, supports the pharmacy department in one or more of the following areas: inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, processing of medications and supplies, specialty medications, and medication histories. Assists with all functions required for medication processing including answering telephones, taking refill orders, entering orders into system, preparing the medication for pharmacist check, preparing medications for disbursement/shipment/delivery. Key job duties may consist of handling supplies, stocking prepackaged items, maintaining inventory, delivering supplies, maintaining records, distributing supplies. May assist in bulk compounding and preparation of I.V. solutions. Works with pharmacy staff to minimize the potential for medication errors.

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Requires Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training OR Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Requires Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy or enrolled in or graduated from an ASHP/ACPE accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
  • Requires the absence of criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
  • Requires strong mathematical calculation skills.
  • Requires ability to learn basic pharmacy technician skills in assigned areas and work under close supervision or under clearly defined procedures.
  • Requires ability to learn effective written and communication skills.
  • Requires ability to learn and execute customer services skills.
  • Requires basic proficiency typing and using Microsoft office applications.
