Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Retail Pharmacy Technician to support daily outpatient pharmacy operations at IU Health University Hospital. You will process prescriptions, enter patient data, and assist with dispensing while upholding safety and accuracy.

You will collaborate with pharmacists and the care team, manage inventory, handle refills, and assist customers and insurance issues in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training or Technician License required.
• National Certification within one year of hire if not in a qualified program.
• No disqualifying criminal history related to drugs.
• Proficient with basic math and customer service skills.
• Able to learn pharmacy technician tasks under supervision.
• Proficient in written and verbal communication, and basic typing.

Responsibilities

• Process prescription orders and enter patient/medication data into systems.
• Prepare prescriptions for pharmacist verification and assist with dispensing.
• Assist with medication delivery, pickup, and customer service.
• Manage inventory, stock medications and supplies, and maintain records.

Description:

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the Retail Pharmacy Technician at IU Health University Hospital supports daily outpatient pharmacy operations to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient medication services. Responsibilities include processing prescription orders, entering patient and medication information into pharmacy systems, preparing prescriptions for pharmacist verification, and assisting with medication dispensing, delivery, and pickup. The technician manages inventory, stocks medications and supplies, monitors medication levels, and maintains accurate records in compliance with regulatory standards. Additional duties include providing customer service, answering phones, coordinating prescription refills, resolving insurance-related issues, and supporting specialty medication workflows. Works collaboratively with pharmacists and healthcare team members to promote patient safety, minimize medication errors, and deliver high-quality care to patients and families.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Requires Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training OR Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
• Requires Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy or enrolled in or graduated from an ASHP/ACPE accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
• Requires the absence of criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
• Requires strong mathematical calculation skills.
• Requires ability to learn basic pharmacy technician skills in assigned areas and work under close supervision or under clearly defined procedures.
• Requires ability to learn effective written and communication skills.
• Requires ability to learn and execute customer services skills.
• Requires basic proficiency typing and using Microsoft office applications.
