Job summary

Indiana University Health North Hospital in Indiana is seeking an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician to support hospital pharmacy operations by preparing, packaging, and distributing medications for hospitalized patients. You will process medication orders, prepare unit doses, replenish automated dispensing cabinets, manage inventory, and deliver medications to patient care areas.

You will collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, and the healthcare team to ensure timely distribution and patient safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training OR Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
• Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy or ASHP/ACPE training program.
• No criminal history related to work with drugs.
• Basic proficiency in typing and math; ability to learn technician skills under supervision.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
• Ability to provide customer service.

Responsibilities

• Process medication orders and prepare unit doses.
• Prepare medications and fill automated dispensing cabinets.
• Replenish dispensing cabinets and manage inventory.
• Deliver medications to patient care areas.
• Maintain accurate medication and records; ensure timely distribution.

Description

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the Inpatient Pharmacy Technician at IU Health North Hospital supports hospital pharmacy operations by preparing, packaging, and distributing medications for hospitalized patients. Responsibilities include medication order processing, unit dose preparation, automated dispensing cabinet replenishment, inventory management, medication delivery to patient care areas, and maintaining accurate records. The technician works closely with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare team members to ensure timely medication distribution, support patient safety initiatives, maintain regulatory compliance, and help minimize the risk of medication errors in the inpatient setting.

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Requires Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training OR Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
• Requires Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy or enrolled in or graduated from an ASHP/ACPE accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
• Requires the absence of criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
• Requires strong mathematical calculation skills.
• Requires ability to learn basic pharmacy technician skills in assigned areas and work under close supervision or under clearly defined procedures.
• Requires ability to learn effective written and communication skills.
• Requires ability to learn and execute customer services skills.
• Requires basic proficiency typing and using Microsoft office applications.
