Job summary

IU Health North Hospital is seeking an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician to support hospital pharmacy operations. You will prepare, package, and distribute medications for hospitalized patients, processing orders, preparing unit doses, and maintaining accurate records.

Work closely with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely medication distribution, patient safety, and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced inpatient environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In-Training OR Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
• Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy or ASHP/ACPE program.
• No criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
• Strong mathematical calculation skills.
• Ability to learn basic pharmacy technician skills under supervision.
• Ability to learn effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to learn customer service skills.
• Typing and basic Microsoft Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Support hospital pharmacy operations by preparing, packaging, and distributing medications for hospitalized patients.
• Process medication orders and prepare unit doses.
• Replenish automated dispensing cabinets and manage inventory.
• Deliver medications to patient care areas and maintain accurate records.
• Collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare team members to ensure safe, timely medication distribution.

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the Inpatient Pharmacy Technician at IU Health North Hospital supports hospital pharmacy operations by preparing, packaging, and distributing medications for hospitalized patients. Responsibilities include medication order processing, unit dose preparation, automated dispensing cabinet replenishment, inventory management, medication delivery to patient care areas, and maintaining accurate records. The technician works closely with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare team members to ensure timely medication distribution, support patient safety initiatives, maintain regulatory compliance, and help minimize the risk of medication errors in the inpatient setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Requires Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training OR Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
• Requires Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy or enrolled in or graduated from an ASHP/ACPE accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
• Requires the absence of criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
• Requires strong mathematical calculation skills.
• Requires ability to learn basic pharmacy technician skills in assigned areas and work under close supervision or under clearly defined procedures.
• Requires ability to learn effective written and communication skills.
• Requires ability to learn and execute customer services skills.
• Requires basic proficiency typing and using Microsoft office applications.
