Job summary

The University Health in San Antonio is recruiting an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. This inpatient role delivers comprehensive, family-centered care to pediatric and adolescent/young adult patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions.

The APP will collaborate with physicians, residents, nurses, and the multidisciplinary team to assess, diagnose, and manage complex conditions, including malignancies and chemotherapy-related

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Current NP/PA licensure in the state of practice.
• Board certification (e.g., PNP-AC/PC, FNP, or PA-C).
• DEA license (or eligibility).
• Pediatric or hematology/oncology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed histories and physical examinations for pediatric and AYA hematology/oncology patients.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care with supervising physicians and the multidisciplinary team.
• Manage acute and chronic conditions including oncologic emergencies, chemotherapy-related toxicities, infections, and hematologic disorders.
• Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic tests including laboratory studies, imaging, and pathology results.
• Prescribe medications, chemotherapy (as credentialed), blood products, and supportive therapies.
• Perform procedures as credentialed (e.g., lumbar puncture, bone marrow biopsy).
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, side effects, and discharge planning.
• Coordinate care across inpatient and outpatient settings to ensure continuity of care.
• Participate in daily rounds, case discussions, and interdisciplinary care planning.
• Respond to urgent and emergent clinical situations, including rapid response events.
