Job summary

The Palliative Care Section within the Division of General Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston, MA is seeking a full-time inpatient palliative care nurse practitioner (NP) to join our growing, mature interdisciplinary palliative care consultation team.

The NP will function independently with physician supervision and oversight readily available as needed from physician colleagues.

Qualifications

Must hold a Master's degree in Nursing.
Nurse Practitioner license and Basic Life Support certification required.
0–1 years of related work experience required.
Prescriptive authority from MA DPH-DCP and DEA required.
MA Board authorization to practice as APRN NRSG.
AHA Basic Life Support certificate.
Experience with computer systems including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Experience in a teaching hospital preferred.

Responsibilities

Performs history and physical examinations, formulation of care plans, ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests and provides education to patients and their families.
Acts as an educator and serves as a clinical resource for staff through consultation formal and informal education, review of literature and participation in seminars and conferences.
Coordinates the care of patients to provide safe, effective, timely patient-centered care. Liaises between visiting nurses, clinical staff and consult services. Consults with physicians or surgeons regarding the care of patients for more complex diagnosis.
Document clinical encounters clearly, precisely and in a timely manner.
Works in a collaborative relationship with other health professionals to determine health needs of patients and families.
