AdventHealth in Tampa, FL is seeking a dedicated Neurosurgery APRN to join our neurosurgical team. This role blends inpatient and outpatient duties, delivering comprehensive care for complex neurological and spine conditions in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting.

The APRN will work with neurosurgeons, physicians, nurses, and staff to provide high-quality, patient-centered care and participate in perioperative management and recovery processes.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Doctorate in APRN required.
• Current Florida APRN licensure.
• BLS/ACLS certifications.
• Minimum 1–2 years APP experience; neurosurgery/spine/critical care experience preferred.
• Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform outpatient evaluations, histories, and physical examinations.
• Assess and manage patients with neurological and spinal conditions.
• Develop treatment plans with supervising neurosurgeons.
• Order, interpret, and review MRI, CT, EMG, labs, and imaging.
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, options, procedures, and recovery.
• Manage preop evaluations and postop follow-up visits.
• Coordinate care with neurosurgery team and other services.
• Document encounters in the EMR accurately.

The APRN will collaborate closely with neurosurgeons, physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care across the continuum.

Outpatient Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, histories, and physical examinations.
• Assess and manage patients presenting with neurological and spinal conditions.
• Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising neurosurgeons.
• Order, interpret, and review diagnostic testing including MRI, CT, EMG, laboratory results, and radiologic studies.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, and recovery expectations.
• Manage preoperative evaluations and postoperative follow-up visits.
• Identify patients who may benefit from surgical intervention and coordinate care accordingly.
• Document patient encounters accurately within the electronic medical record.

Inpatient Responsibilities

• Perform daily hospital rounds on neurosurgical patients.
• Evaluate and manage postoperative patients following cranial and spinal procedures.
• Coordinate patient care with hospitalists, specialists, case management, rehabilitation services, and nursing teams.
• Monitor patient progress, review diagnostics, and adjust treatment plans as appropriate.
• Facilitate admissions, discharges, transfers, and transitions of care.
• Respond to inpatient neurosurgical consultations and urgent clinical needs.
• Participate in hospital-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Required

• Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current Florida APRN licensure.
• BLS, ACLS, and APRN certifications.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of APP experience preferred; neurosurgery, spine surgery, orthopedic surgery, critical care, surgical, or neurology experience required
• Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
