Job summary

AdventHealth Medical Group seeks a dedicated Neurosurgery APRN to join our neurosurgical team in Carrollwood, Florida. The role blends inpatient and outpatient duties, delivering comprehensive care for complex neurological and spinal conditions in a collaborative setting.

The APRN will work with neurosurgeons, physicians, and nurses to manage patients through the surgical continuum, from evaluation to recovery, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered outcomes across the continuum.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited NP program.
• Current Florida APRN licensure is required.
• BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Minimum 1–2 years APP experience; neurosurgery/spine/ortho/critical care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Outpatient: conduct evaluations, histories, physicals; develop and implement treatment plans with supervising neurosurgeons; order and review imaging and labs; educate patients and families.
• Inpatient: daily rounds; manage postoperative neurosurgical patients; coordinate with hospital teams; ensure transitions of care and documentation.

Job Description Summary

AdventHealth Medical Group is seeking a dedicated and experienced Neurosurgery APRN to join our growing neurosurgical team in Carrollwood, Florida. This position offers a unique blend of inpatient and outpatient responsibilities, providing comprehensive care to patients with complex neurological and spinal conditions. The APRN will collaborate closely with neurosurgeons, physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care across the continuum.

Outpatient Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, histories, and physical examinations.
• Assess and manage patients presenting with neurological and spinal conditions.
• Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising neurosurgeons.
• Order, interpret, and review diagnostic testing including MRI, CT, EMG, laboratory results, and radiologic studies.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, and recovery expectations.
• Manage preoperative evaluations and postoperative follow-up visits.
• Identify patients who may benefit from surgical intervention and coordinate care accordingly.
• Document patient encounters accurately within the electronic medical record.

Inpatient Responsibilities

• Perform daily hospital rounds on neurosurgical patients.
• Evaluate and manage postoperative patients following cranial and spinal procedures.
• Coordinate patient care with hospitalists, specialists, case management, rehabilitation services, and nursing teams.
• Monitor patient progress, review diagnostics, and adjust treatment plans as appropriate.
• Facilitate admissions, discharges, transfers, and transitions of care.
• Respond to inpatient neurosurgical consultations and urgent clinical needs.
• Participate in hospital-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Required

• Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current Florida APRN licensure.
• BLS, ACLS, and APRN certifications.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of APP experience preferred; neurosurgery, spine surgery, orthopedic surgery, critical care, surgical, or neurology experience required
• Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
