Job summary

Saint Mary’s Hospital, part of Trinity Health Of New England, seeks an experienced RN for the Inpatient General Surgery unit. The role emphasizes post-operative recovery, ongoing assessment, and coordination of care during the hospital stay.

Responsibilities include pain management, wound care, and discharge planning in collaboration with surgical teams, case management, and families to ensure safe transitions home.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate’s degree in Nursing is required.
• Valid RN license in Connecticut.
• One or more years of General Surgery, Med/Surg, or Acute Inpatient nursing experience.
• BLS/CPR certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) preferred; certification support offered post-hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to post-operative general surgery patients, including assessment, pain management, wound healing and monitoring for complications.
• Collaborate with surgeons, hospitalists, case management, and interdisciplinary teams to support patient progression, recovery, and discharge planning.
• Educate patients and families on post-surgical care, medications, activity restrictions, and recovery expectations to promote safe transitions.
