Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX, seeks a Coding Inpatient Trainer/Educator to educate staff on coding concepts and CDI procedures, ensuring precise medical record coding for optimal reimbursement. You will prepare and present education to individuals and teams to support high performance.

The role emphasizes developing and delivering training, auditing coding practices, and advancing education across the coding discipline.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of acute hospital inpatient coding experience
• Experience leading training content development and delivery
• Knowledge of coding audits and CDI concepts
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to work independently

Responsibilities

• Coordinate onboarding for all new staff
• Train new Coding staff on Coding guidelines, concepts, procedures, and identification of query opportunities
• Maintains and updates the Coding orientation program
• Develop training and reference materials; i.e., tip sheets, guidelines, etc.
• Mentor and coach to ensure knowledge and skills for success
• Performs concurrent and retrospective reviews to monitor progress
• Provide feedback to ensure success
• Identify educational trends and gaps through audit findings and develop targeted tutorials
• Submit educational content for CEU approval through AHIMA or AAPC
• Create and present targeted educational materials to improve coding quality
• Collaborate with CDI team on guidelines and reviews
• Address denials with Denials Team
• Lead DRG/POA/risk adjustment reviews etc.
• Coordinate educational needs with Coding Audit/Educators and CDI Leaders
• Maintain knowledge of coding and CDI guidelines and practices
