Job summary

ChristianaCare in Newark, DE is seeking a full-time Inpatient Coding Coordinator IV to oversee timely coding for reimbursement and data collection. You will coordinate daily coding and support staff across inpatient cases.

You will ensure accuracy, identify documentation gaps, and educate physicians and coders on ICD/CMS guidelines, contributing to data quality and compliance. This role offers solid benefits and a collaborative hospital environment.

Qualifications

• RHIA, RHIT or CCS certification or equivalent certification/degree.
• College credits in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Three years coding experience in a Health Information Management Department or equivalent.
• Experience with implementing and maintaining computer systems.

Responsibilities

• Timely pre-bill review and audit patient medical records (inpatient primarily) and correctly capture of final DRG for each review.
• Analyze clinical data of inpatients, current treatment, past medical history and identify potential gaps in physician documentation.
• Analyze and report trends for improvement opportunities in coding and documentation.
• Verify coding and abstracting accuracy by performing quantities and qualitative reviews.
• Communicate with physicians or other providers to validate diagnoses and documentation using AHIMA/ACDIS guidelines.
• Follow CMS, AHIMA, AHA, AAPC, AMA guidelines for coding standards.
• Create educational material and educate physicians, coders, and other providers regarding clinical documentation improvement.
• Train and audit entry level coders or coders in a new discipline.
