Job summary

ChristianaCare, one of the nation’s leading health systems, seeks a Coding Educator to monitor and validate hospital coding data and to educate staff on identified improvement areas. The Educator will support the CDI team, update acute coding policies, and analyze audit trends to drive quality and accuracy in coding services.

The role requires RHIA/RHIT and CCS credentials, with preferred AHIMA ICD-10 trainer or CDIP/CDDS certifications.

Qualifications

• RHIA or RHIT certification is required or equivalent.
• CCS certification is required.
• AHIMA ICD-10 trainer credential preferred.
• CDIP or CCDS certification preferred.
• College credits in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Two years auditing experience required, preferably in an acute care teaching hospital.
• Four years coding/DRG experience required, preferably in an acute care teaching hospital.

Responsibilities

• Plans and conducts audits and reports on the documentation, coding and billing performed at ChristianaCare entities.
• Reviews, develops, and delivers training programs and educational materials to address deficiencies identified in audits, compliant with regulatory requirements.
• Provides written audit guidance.
• Participates with management in the assessment of external audit findings and responds as needed.
• Develops audit detail summary and reports to address coding, documentation, financial impact and profitability.
• Conducts education/training or works with external resources to present final audit findings to department staff and appropriate individuals.
• Validates ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT and HCPCS codes and modifiers; ensures compliance with DRG/APC structure and regulatory requirements.
• Prepares inpatient case-mix reports and DRG/APC analyses to identify patterns and variations.
