$5,000 Sign-On Bonus - 100% remote. Must live in the following states: TX, GA, FL, TN, or WA.

At Houston Methodist, the Inpatient Coder is responsible for ensuring diagnostic and procedure codes are assigned accurately to inpatient encounters based on documentation within the electronic medical record, while maintaining compliance with established rules and regulatory guidelines.

Essential Functions

1. People: Interacts and communicates effectively with the coding team and stakeholders; participates in meetings, provides feedback, assists others, and shares knowledge.
2. Service: Responds promptly to coding requests, initiates queries with physicians for clarification, and ensures accuracy.
3. Quality/Safety: Maintains high coding quality standards, reviews documentation, abstracts data accurately, and adheres to ethical coding standards.
4. Finance: Codes and abstracts efficiently, supports organizational AR goals, and processes work items timely.
5. Growth/Innovation: Evaluates performance, accepts feedback, and seeks improvements.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher in a CAHIIM accredited program, or additional two years of experience in lieu of degree.
• One year of relevant inpatient coding experience, or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice or Transition Program.
• Certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCA (AHIMA).
• Skills: Proficiency in coding systems, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and electronic medical records.

Additional Details

• Work attire: Business professional.
• On-call: No, but may be required during emergencies.
• Travel: May require travel within and outside Houston area.
