Job summary

The University of Virginia is seeking a Charge Nurse to lead inpatient care areas, coordinating clinical and operational needs with management partners. This experienced nurse will guide day-to-day throughput, staffing, and care quality, ensuring a supportive environment for patients and staff.

Responsibilities include coordinating staffing, documenting labor outputs, facilitating team huddles, and promoting safe, efficient patient care within regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Education: BSN or current enrollment with expected completion within 5 years.
• Experience: RN Clinician 2 or higher on unit for 6 months or prior Charge Nurse experience.
• Licensure: Virginia RN license; AHA BLS required.

Responsibilities

• Leads day-to-day operations to support safe throughput and access to care.
• Manages staffing according to patient needs and collaborates with leaders and staffing resources.
• Documents in labor management software to ensure fiscal stewardship.
• Acts as a resource for team members and supports adherence to policies and clinical practice resources.
• Promotes a calm, productive working environment and supports team members in non-patient care activities.
• Supports patient experience through rounding, service recovery, and collaboration to optimize care quality.
• Manages care environment to meet regulatory and safety standards and promotes effective communication.

Education

Bachelor's of Science in Nursing or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing BSN/MSN program that will be completed within 5 years of hire.
