Job summary

University of Michigan - Michigan Medicine seeks a Clinical Assistant to support the inpatient Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) team. The role coordinates non-physician tasks, facilitates patient testing, admissions, discharge planning and follow-up care, and ensures smooth transitions between inpatient and outpatient settings.

This position emphasizes patient safety, accurate documentation, and communication among residents, physicians, nurses, and families.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Associate degree or healthcare training preferred.
• Previous hospital or clinical setting experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate non-physician tasks directly related to patient care, including testing, services, admissions, transition of care, discharge planning and follow-up appointments.
• Facilitate communication between residents, referring physicians, nursing, and families to ensure continuity of care.
• Support daily clinical workflows and ensure timely completion of patient care activities.
• Coordinate communication between patients, families, and clinical staff.
• Monitor unit operations and address non-clinical issues affecting patient care.
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with protocols.
• Serve as a liaison between departments to resolve administrative concerns.
• Uphold patient safety and privacy standards.
• Contribute to continuous quality improvement by identifying and supporting care improvements.
