Job summary

Heywood Healthcare is seeking a Mental Health Technician (MHT) for per diem shifts in inpatient behavioral health. The MHT supports a therapeutic milieu, monitors patient safety, and assists with daily living activities and treatment interventions.

Responsibilities include building therapeutic relationships, de-escalation when needed, and effective communication with the care team to ensure a safe and respectful environment for patients experiencing acute behavioral health symptoms.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Be able to work with patients with psychiatric, emotional, cognitive or behavioral difficulties.
• AHA BLS CPR certification required or obtained within 60 days of hire.
• DMH approved de-escalation training within 30–60 days of hire depending on unit.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, compassionate care to patients per policies and treatment plans.
• Establish therapeutic relationships and professional boundaries with patients.
• Support patients in coping, communication, and behavioral skills.
• Maintain safety and monitor patient environment; report safety risks.
• Document patient belongings from admission through discharge.
• Coordinate with nurses, providers, social workers, and other team members.
• Assist with daily living activities and patient meal and toiletries needs.
