Job summary

State of South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a Classification Case Manager to evaluate inmate records and determine eligibility for assignments, custody changes, jobs and programs. The role includes chairing the institutional classification committee and coordinating a system for about 250 inmates.

The position requires conducting progress reviews, interviewing inmates, responding to inquiries, and operating the agency computer system.

Qualifications

• High school diploma; related experience required.
• A bachelor’s degree may substitute for related experience.

• Conduct periodic reviews of inmate progress.
• Interview inmates regarding general adjustment or related problems.
• Respond to inquiries from departmental officials and other agencies.
• Operate the SCDC computer system to enter/retrieve inmate history data.
• Performs other related duties as required.

• Under the general supervision of the Classification Case Manager, evaluates inmates automated and manual record to determine eligibility for institutional assignment, custody changes, jobs, and treatment program.

• Serves as chairperson of the institutional classification committee.

• Coordinates an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates.

• Conducts periodic reviews of inmate's progress.

• Interviews inmates relating to their general institutional adjustment or related problems.

• Responds to inquiries of information from departmental officials and other agencies.

• Operates the SCDC computer system to enter/retrieve information pertaining to inmate's social, criminal, educational and family history.

• Performs other related duties as required.

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and related experience. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required related experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree;

OR

• An associate degree and any one (1) year combination of administrative and/or correctional experience;

OR

• A high school diploma and any two (2) year combination of administrative and/or correctional experience.
