Job summary

The State of Delaware Department of Correction invites applications for the Inmate Classification Officer I to support statewide inmate classification processes, focusing on 4217 applications and documentation accuracy.

You will synthesize case information for higher-level review, perform precise data entry, manage files securely, and prepare information packets for court proceedings, with telework eligibility and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

• Six months experience using an inmate classification system to classify inmates.
• Six months experience making recommendations as part of a client service plan such as clinical treatment, counseling, or determining eligibility for health or human services/benefits.
• Six months experience interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
• Six months experience using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
• Six months experience in narrative report writing.

Responsibilities

• Interviews and assesses inmates with the multidisciplinary classification team.
• Reviews records for accuracy and standards and ensures completeness of information.
• Schedules and chairs multidisciplinary classification team meetings and guides discussions.
• Ensures implementation of Classification Committee decisions via on-site inspections and corrective actions.
• Participates in inmate transfers to implement committee decisions and manage crisis situations.
• Recommends changes to procedures to improve timely custody placement and treatment access.
• Presents team recommendations to the Institutional Classification Committee for final determination.
• Conducts studies and presents findings for use in classification procedures.
