Job summary

Brook & Whittle LTD is seeking a dependable Production Employee for 1st shift (Mon-Thu, 10 hours, 5 am–3 pm) in Nashville, TN. The role combines Ink Technician duties with Press Support responsibilities in a safety-conscious manufacturing environment.

Position Summary

1st Shift - Monday - Thursday, 10 hours, 5 am - 3 pm

We are seeking a dependable Production Employee to join our manufacturing team. This role offers hands‑on training, a strong safety culture, and opportunities for career advancement.

Once Ink Technician duties are completed for a shift, this role will be required to provide additional Press Support as needed.

Essential Functions / Ink Technician
  • Assures ink color match meets customer requirements for all printed materials.
  • Performs color matches including formulating and entering software database.
  • Maintains ink and coatings inventory.
  • Manages ink equipment function, machine calibration, and maintenance.
  • Monitors ink usage and inventory.
  • Mixes and proofs formulas and ensures database storage of all ink recipes
  • Creates color standards.
  • Makes sound operational decisions, embracing continuous improvement and implementing cost saving measures when applicable.
  • Provides training on basics of anilox rolls, ink chemistry, color theory, spectrophotometry, ink usage, and other ink/tooling related issues.
  • Reviews job specs and press run samples for accuracy and adherence to customer specific requests.
  • Troubleshoots ink and coating problems.
Essential Functions / Press Support
  • Reads and understands job jacket.
  • Uses the information on work instructions to ensure that all equipment needed is on set up the cart.
  • Mounts plates as required.
  • Performs machine wash up with the use of wash up cart following standard work procedures.
  • Performs machine make‑ready to run proper production including removing and loading print cylinders, material, lamination, die, score, etc. following standard work.
  • Assists operators with setting up any auxiliary equipment.
  • Empties trash and rag containers as they become full.
  • Cuts cores using the core‑cutting equipment.
  • Makes sure all equipment is returned to the preproduction area.
  • Requests stock from inventory clerk.
  • Removes finished rolls as needed. Prepares stock for RTS.
  • Performs other related duties to contribute to the success of the operation as assigned by supervisor.
  • Assists in other areas as needed or assigned.
  • Ensures that the press is maintained in safe working order at all times by making sure all guards and safety devices are in good condition and are properly used. Report all unsafe conditions to shift supervisor either verbally or in writing.
  • Follows 6S requirements.
  • Works effectively with the prepress department and co‑workers as it pertains to achieving customer satisfaction, cost control and timely performance of duties. Look for and have input for implementing suggestions for producing work more efficiently.

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions
  • Incumbent regularly required to carry and lift up to 20 lbs unassisted.
  • Incumbent occasionally required to carry and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for the majority of shift – 2 hour increments.
  • Short distance walking required with rolls to be placed on shipping table.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, grasp and reach frequently.
  • Must be able to differentiate between color variance.
  • Frequent exposure to manufacturing environment with one or more unpleasant or hazardous conditions including but not limited to exposure to dust, dirt, high noise levels, chemicals, etc. 21% to 50% of work time.
  • Incumbent constantly required to walk, stand, grasp, reach, push/pull, bend, stoop, twisting and use of manual dexterity for prolonged periods of time.
  • Incumbent regularly required to hear, speak, and use color vision.
