Job summary

Amcor LLC in Lawrence, KS is seeking a skilled Machinist to support the Tool Room. You will maintain, repair, and troubleshoot molds and related equipment to keep production flowing.

The role emphasizes strong mechanical aptitude, reliable measurement skills, and collaboration with Maintenance, Molding, and other teams. You will inspect, test, and document mold work, operate presses, and assist with mold handling and safety practices.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a machinist apprenticeship program or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with machining equipment (lathes, mills, grinders, etc.).
• Knowledge of injection mold components and systems.
• Proficiency with measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
• Good mathematical, analytical, and troubleshooting abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Must provide own hand tools.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Forklift and crane certification required (or ability to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Operate molding presses and assist in opening/closing molds for repair and maintenance.
• Troubleshoot basic molding process issues related to molds.
• Assist in setting, pulling, cleaning, and inspecting molds.
• Perform mold testing (water, air, and electrical) before release from the Tool Room.
• Wire and check all mold heaters.
• Monitor mold efficiencies and support continuous improvement efforts.
• Maintain accurate documentation in Mold Maintenance Files, including work performed, dates, and details.
• Apply green-tag status to molds that are production-ready.
• Assist with training of new team members.
• Collaborate with other departments (Maintenance, Molding, Printing, Thermoforming, etc.) as needed.
• Perform routine safety and equipment inspections.
• Shut down equipment when necessary to prevent harm to personnel or property.
• Maintain a clean and organized Tool Room.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Tooling leadership.
