Job summary

Down East Community Hospital is seeking an Outpatient Scheduling Coordinator to manage infusion clinic scheduling and provide backup coverage for outpatient services with courteous, professional service.

The role supports Patient Access Registration and acts as ward Clerk on Med/Surg as needed; extensive interaction with patients, providers, and insurance processes is required to ensure smooth operations. Strong computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with on-the-job training.
• Experience with various computer systems and typing.
• Knowledgeable in medical terminology.
• Knowledgeable in various health insurance plans.
• Knowledgeable in daily operations of a business office and general office machines.
• Ability to work independently as well as a team setting, performing under pressure.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all aspects of Infusion Patient Scheduling.
• Responsible for all aspects of outpatient scheduling when covering the Out Patient Scheduler Office including: Infusion, Imaging, Cardio Pulmonary, Nuclear Medicine, and Dietary departments.
• Scheduling inpatients for services when necessary.
• Answer all incoming phone calls and return messages when applicable.
• Maintain a current working knowledge of outpatient coverage issues.
• Prescreen scheduled outpatient services for third party coverage including assessment of medical necessity when applicable.
• Obtain insurance coverage and pre-certification numbers when applicable.
• Adheres to all aspects of the POS policy as applies to outpatient scheduling.
