Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • BICSI Technician Certification highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Install, service, upgrade, and decommission complex structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber optic systems, and low-voltage technologies.
  • Perform advanced technical work, including fusion splicing high-strand ribbon fiber, terminating and testing copper and fiber, and troubleshooting complex issues.
  • Install and remove racks, cable trays, cabinets, pathways, network devices, servers, patch panels, bonding, firestopping, cable channeling, and related infrastructure components.
  • Lead small teams, mentor Technicians I and II, and model strong workmanship, professionalism, and customer service.
  • Coordinate workflows with team members to keep projects on schedule, within scope, and compliant with requirements.

Infrastructure Technician III

Location: Fully onsite at customer site in New Albany, OH 43054

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; schedule may change and requires flexibility for after-hours work and some weekends based on project needs

Employment Type: Contract, with possible extension or contract-to-hire opportunity for candidates available to travel and support other U.S. sites as needed

Position Overview

As an Infrastructure Technician III, you will serve as a senior-level technical expert and frontline field leader responsible for installing, servicing, upgrading, and decommissioning the data, voice, fiber, structured cabling, ICT, and low-voltage systems that support advanced environments. This hands‑on role requires precision, quality, professionalism, and deep expertise in structured cabling, fiber optics, and ICT infrastructure.

Ideal candidates are highly skilled technicians who can solve complex technical challenges, mentor junior team members, and deliver high-quality work in high-stakes environments such as data centers, enterprise facilities, and advanced customer sites.

Position Details
  • Hourly role based on experience and skill level.
  • Contract position with potential for extension or hire.
  • Standard schedule is Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; schedule may change and requires flexibility for after-hours work and some weekends as project demands require.
  • Fully onsite at the customer site in New Albany, OH.
  • Must be open to travel and support other sites within the U.S. as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Structured Cabling and ICT Infrastructure Work
  • Install, service, upgrade, and decommission complex structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber optic systems, and low-voltage technologies.
  • Perform advanced technical work, including fusion splicing high-strand ribbon fiber, terminating and testing copper and fiber, and troubleshooting complex issues.
  • Install and remove racks, cable trays, cabinets, pathways, network devices, servers, patch panels, bonding, firestopping, cable channeling, and related infrastructure components.
Serve as the Onsite Subject Matter Expert
  • Apply deep knowledge of TIA/BICSI standards, ICT best practices, building codes, and life safety requirements.
  • Conduct Fluke DSX8000 testing, OTDR testing, VFL testing, inspection, documentation, and remediation.
  • Troubleshoot and support network devices; Cisco router experience is strongly preferred.
Lead Teams and Set the Standard
  • Act as the first level of field leadership, prioritizing Safety First, followed by Quality, then Production.
  • Lead small teams, mentor Technicians I and II, and model strong workmanship, professionalism, and customer service.
  • Coordinate workflows with team members to keep projects on schedule, within scope, and compliant with requirements.
Deliver an Outstanding Client Experience
  • Serve as a customer‑facing technical professional with exceptional communication and service skills.
  • Provide clear updates on project status, technical challenges, and resolutions.
  • Support emergency service requests with timely response and SLA compliance.
Maintain Documentation and Project Readiness
  • Maintain accurate electronic and written documentation for time, materials, testing results, and work progress.
  • Request tools, supplies, and materials to support readiness and jobsite efficiency.
  • Participate in required meetings, training, and workshops to maintain expertise and certifications.
Technical Skills
  • Deep knowledge of TIA/BICSI standards, ICT best practices, NEC, ANSI, TIA, EIA, and BICSI standards.
  • Fiber fusion splicing, including high-strand ribbon fiber.
  • Copper and fiber termination, testing, certification, troubleshooting, inspection, remediation, and documentation.
  • Experience using Fluke DSX8000, OTDR, and VFL tools.
  • Patch panel installation, rack and stack, network device mounting, server installation, bonding, cable channeling, and firestopping.
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings, and to read or create port maps and technical documentation.
  • Ability to use laptops and tablets with digital work software.
  • Understanding of switching, routing, low-voltage signal flow, and network device support.
  • Knowledge of Cisco router installation and configuration preferred.
  • Experience with major manufacturers such as Panduit, CommScope, Corning, Leviton, and similar providers preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility

Tech III is the first level of field leadership at Black Box. This role leads small teams, mentors junior technicians, and ensures safe, quality‑focused execution.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Primarily indoor work with occasional outdoor work.
  • Moderate noise levels typical of construction and data center environments.
  • Regularly required to sit, kneel, stoop, climb, bend, reach, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift or move 50 lbs. regularly and 25 lbs. frequently.
  • Must be able to work at heights and in tight or confined spaces.

Required Tools
