IT Workforce Strategist | Connecting IT Talent with New, Career-Propelling Opportunities

Infrastructure Analyst

POSITION SUMMARY

  1. Provide enterprise level support of IT infrastructure technologies needed for critical business operations applications, such as SCADA Systems and Control Center operations, under regulatory compliance requirements (NERC CIP and TSA) and specific Cybersecurity Standards. These technologies include, but are not limited to, automation platforms, workstations, physical and virtual servers, storage, remote access functionality, and a variety of operations and business critical software solutions.
  2. Integrate software to enable usage, support, monitoring, cybersecurity and regulatory compliance of various hardware and software technologies.
  3. Develop and maintain routine work procedures and define standard installation and upgrade methodologies.
  4. Responsibilities may include evaluation, acquisition, installation, integration testing, upgrading components and performance monitoring.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Installs and/or supports critical computer systems in highly regulated and secure environment. Facilitates technical and business planning for upgrades in coordination with key business functions and control centers. Provides technical guidance related to critical infrastructure support software and hardware to members of the IT staff.
  2. Develops (or assists in developing) functional standards for critical infrastructure software and hardware. Assists in the design and implementation of required systems that meet functional and compliance requirements for critical control center operations.
  3. Integrates critical infrastructure software and hardware configurations to maximize operational reliability and performance, and maintain regulatory compliance.
  4. Coordinates critical infrastructure hardware and software upgrades with control centers, business support teams and other areas of IT or other business units.
  5. Prepares activity and progress reports regarding individual and project activity.
  6. Keeps abreast of new hardware, software, and compliance developments, evaluates alternative approaches, and recommends new hardware technologies, software or upgrades which enhance operational reliability and process efficiencies.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Server racks/cabinets
  2. Fiber and copper infrastructure and cabling (trunks, panels, enclosures, patch cables, etc.)
  3. Inspection and cleaning of fiber cables
  4. Labeling for all equipment and cables

Proactive Measures:

  1. Monitor data center environment for abnormalities such as high temperatures, cooling issues, high amperage usages, obvious alerts such as LEDs and audible alarms, etc.
  2. Monitor rack/cabinet capacity in the data center.
  3. Monitor switch port capacities in the data center.

Troubleshooting:

  1. OSI Layer 1 connectivity
  2. Knowledge/understanding of fiber and copper cable connectivity issues
  3. Experience using fiber and copper cable testers

Applications:

  1. Proficient in Word and Excel.
  2. Service Now experience
  3. Experience with Agile-based workflow such as Kanban; applications such as JIRA

Knowledge:

  1. Understand how the OSI Layer 1 works and applies to troubleshooting cable issues.
  2. Knowledge of transceivers such as SFPs, QSFPs, etc.
  3. Knowledge of the various types of copper and fiber connectors/cables: Cat5, Cat7, MPO, LC, SC, Twinax, etc.
  4. Basic knowledge of power calculations, such as wattage and amperage, to determine usage limits on power circuits within server cabinets.
  5. CompTia A+, Server+, Network+ or similar certifications

Soft Skills:

  1. Coachable attitude, willingness to learn, and receptivity to feedback
  2. Effective time management.
  3. Strong oral and written communication skills
  4. Professionally interact across technical, business and compliance teams to assess their business needs.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

Associates - Other Related Degree OR Associates - Computer Science

With Degree: Min Required Related Experience: 1 Year

In Lieu of Required Degree: High School/GED with Min Required Related Experience: 2 Years

HIGHLY DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS

CompTia A+, Server +, CompTia Network +

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Practical experience working within Data Center environment and/or IT Infrastructure Support
  2. Strong inter-personal skills (listening, conflict management, approachability, collaborative)
  3. Ability to work effectively in a technically complex critical infrastructure environment
  4. Strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements (NERC CIP, TSA)
  5. 2-3-year practical experience with Windows/Linux operating systems and general computer asset usage and support
  6. Ability to work independently
  7. Ability to build working relationships across technical, business and compliance teams.
  8. Ability to effectively prioritize work activities based on priority

Working Conditions:

  3. PPE Requirements - Safety Shoes, Eye protection, Hand protection (gloves)
