Job summary

The City of Homestead is seeking an experienced Development Plans Reviewer to evaluate engineering plans and permit applications for roadways, drainage, and utilities, ensuring compliance with applicable codes. The role involves coordination with engineers, architects, developers, and regulatory agencies to facilitate accurate designs.

Responsibilities include reviewing plans, providing technical assistance, conducting field inspections, and presenting findings at public meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, architecture or related field.
• 5 years of experience in review of construction documents/design plans and evaluation of development of residential, commercial infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of Federal, State, and local rules and regulations and code requirements related to the department.
• Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Must possess a valid state of Florida driver's license with a clean driving record; Advanced MOT within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Reviews plans, specifications, and calculations to determine compliance with ordinances, codes, and regulations; prepares detailed plan review letters.
• Identify potential issues and non-compliance; document findings and communicate corrective actions.
• Provide technical assistance to residents, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors.
• Stay informed on changes in regulations, standards, and industry practices; reference AASHTO, MUTCD, ADA, Florida Greenbook, FDOT standards.
• Conduct field inspections to verify site conditions and compliance with approved plans.
• Participate in public meetings, workshops, and charrettes; prepare visual presentations.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to coordinate review of development applications.
• Perform other job-related work as assigned.
