Job summary

The City of Deerfield Beach is seeking a seasoned Civil Engineer to plan, review, and update design guidelines for transportation, utilities, drainage, and other municipal infrastructure. This role oversees design, construction, operation, and maintenance of city facilities, ensuring budget, safety, and environmental compliance.

You will lead an engineering division, manage capital projects, coordinate with Development Review Board processes, and supervise staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related major.
• Ten (10) years of professional engineering experience, preferably municipal engineering.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
• Licensed Florida Professional Engineer.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
• Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
• Administers the Right-of-Way Management Program. Implements policy and establishes procedures to govern all construction activities in public right-of-way.
• Provides direction for the City’s Stormwater Management Program and oversees the administration of the City’s Stormwater utility.
• Manages large and complex capital improvement projects and assists in CIP budgeting.
• Directs the Engineering Division’s participation in Development Review Board processes and enforces ordinance/code requirements for utilities and drainage solutions.
