Job summary

City of Homestead seeks a mid‑level Permit Technician II to process complex permit applications and coordinate large residential and commercial developments. The role requires strong technical permitting knowledge, independent judgment, and excellent customer service.

You will serve as a primary permit coordinator, ensuring timely processing and compliance with Florida regulations. This position emphasizes collaboration with multiple departments and external agencies in a dynamic public service

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 30 college credits from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Building Construction Technology, or a closely related field.
• Three years of progressively responsible municipal building permitting experience.
• Must obtain ICC Permit Technician Certification within twelve (12) months of appointment.
• Must complete FEMA ICS-100 and ICS-200 within six (6) months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Independently processes complex residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use permit applications.
• Serves as primary permit coordinator for large-scale development projects.
• Reviews permit applications for compliance with submission requirements and regulations.
• Coordinates permit revisions, deferred submittals, phased permits, and inspections reporting.
• Calculates and verifies permit fees, impact fees, and related development charges.
• Coordinates permitting activities with internal review disciplines and outside agencies.
