Job summary

Jobtailor in California is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector to oversee diverse public infrastructure projects, including pipelines and treatment plants. You will ensure adherence to plans, perform material testing, and maintain rigorous project documentation.

The role requires strong field experience, ability to read complex plans, and to communicate variances to engineers and contractors. A valid CA driver’s license and relevant certifications are highly preferred.

Qualifications

• College degree or minimum 5 years’ work experience in related field.
• Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driver’s record are required.
• 4+ years of experience in the supervision or inspection of engineering construction work, including reading and interpreting complex construction plans and specifications, OR 5 years’ work experience in related trade/field.
• Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII) is desired.
• ICC Reinforced Concrete Inspection Certification is desired.
• ICC Masonry Inspection Certification is desired.
• ICC Welding Inspection Certification is desired.
• ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician - Grade 1 Certification is desired.
• Qualified SWPPP Certification is desired.
• Fall protection Safety Training is desired.
• First Aid & CPR is desired.

Responsibilities

• Inspect a variety of construction, including repair of pipelines, water mains, sewers, lift stations, and treatment plants.
• Advise the Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and inform contractors of variances from approved plans and specifications.
• Take samples of materials, prepare test specimens, and assist in conducting field tests or refer samples for laboratory analysis.
• Check the location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work.
• Assist the PM in reviewing project submittals, RFIs, and CCOs.
• Verify acceptability of materials incorporated into the project through Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, and test reports.
• Maintain material and inspection records.
• Maintain a daily diary, photo log, and contract item quantities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
