Job summary

Chatham Area Transit is seeking an IT Technician to provide technical support and ensure smooth operation of computer systems, networks, and software applications. Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in IT or CS is preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 2-5 years in IT support or related role.
  • CompTIA A+ or MCITP or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency with Windows/Mac, Office suite, and IT support tools.
  • Experience with data collection and dashboard setup.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and on-call.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line IT support for hardware and software issues and assist end-users.
  • Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, software, systems, networks, printers, and scanners.

About the Role

The following duties are representative of the responsibilities assigned to this position. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

Job Summary: The IT Technician will be responsible for providing technical support and assistance to ensure the smooth operation of computer systems, networks, and software applications. This role involves diagnosing hardware and software issues, installing and configuring systems, and ensuring network security and efficiency. This position will involve facilitating and learning new system components regarding all Transportation-based software and hardware implementation across all business lines. This will also be heavy in data analysis including collection, organization and tracking of trends using systematic data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Support: Provide first-line support for hardware and software issues, including troubleshooting and resolving technical problems for end-users. This role will become an expert in software's used to support our day-to-day business and to support all lines of business. This will include data collection and analysis.
  • System Maintenance: Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, software, systems, networks, printers, and scanners.
  • Network Management: Assist in the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and other network systems as needed. Understanding of network topology will be critical to success.
  • Software Management: Install, update, and manage software applications and operating systems. Ensure all software is properly licensed and up to date. This role will handle most packages that are not supported directly by MSP. Coordination of implementations and updates with MSP.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of hardware inventory, software licenses, and network configurations in collaboration with MSP. Document technical procedures and solutions.
  • User Training: Provide training and guidance to staff on proper use of hardware and software. Develop and update user manuals and technical documentation.
  • Upgrades and Repairs: Recommend and perform hardware and software upgrades as needed. Repair or replace damaged hardware components.
  • Vendor Liaison: Communicate with third-party vendors for warranty claims, product information, and support.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science is desired or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of experience in IT support or a related role.
  • Certifications: CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), or equivalent required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Windows and Mac operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and common IT support tools. Knowledge of network protocols and configurations. Experience in data collection and dashboard setup and management.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Other: Willingness to work flexible hours and be on-call for emergency support when necessary.
Working Conditions:
  • Primarily office-based with occasional site visits.
  • May require lifting and transporting heavy equipment.
