The City of Claremont is looking for one highly motivated, enthusiastic, customer service-oriented individual to perform technical support for the Information Technology Division.

Under the direction of the Information Technology Officer, the Information Technology Technician will perform technical support of City technology systems; analyze and resolve user support requests, provide user training and advanced application support; install, test, monitor, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair computer systems, networks, and peripherals; assist with the configuration and maintenance of City wireless infrastructure, phone systems, cameras, and audio-visual systems. They will also perform routine database administration, assist with setting up and maintain database environments, and assist with developing data warehouses and reporting.

Some exciting projects the Information Technology Division is working on includes collaborating on the hardening of our network infrastructure; providing proven cyber resilience through network policies; deployment of new ERP system; and coordinate and assist in a new CADRMS implementation.

Work hours are generally Monday through Thursday (38-hour work week) between 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Some evening/weekend meetings or special events may be required.


Two years of progressively responsible experience involving information technology technician support with some network, systems, or database administrations, preferably in public safety or a municipal enterprise-level environment,AND an associate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in information systems, information technology, computer science, and/or related field.

OR

Any combination of progressively responsible experience as an Information Technology Technician, IT Specialist, and IT Analyst at an enterprise system level or in a public safety or municipal environment with relevant certifications to perform the abovementioned duties.

Possession of a valid California State Class C driver's license. Highly Desirable: Possession of or ability to obtain certification as a full-access California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) user.
KEY ABILITIES
The City is looking for an Information Technology Technician who is a highly motivated and service-oriented individual who wants to work for a city that values creativity and innovation. They will have a broad range of computer knowledge and be technically skilled. They should be able to work independently within a team-oriented setting. The Information Technology Technician will be organized and be able to meet deadlines while managing a number of assignments. They will have the ability to establish working relationships with staff and elected/appointed bodies.




COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The City of Claremont offers an attractive and competitive benefits package, including:

  • $1,500 a month for medical allowance
  • 3% negotiated salary increase on 7/1/25 and 7/1/26
  • 38-hour work week
  • 2% at 55 PERS retirement (Classic Members), Employee pays 7% of salary; 2% at 62 PERS retirement (New Member) Employee pays 6.5% of salary
  • 96 hours - 160 hours vacation based on years of service
  • 123 holiday/floating holiday hours
  • 56hours of Administrative Leave
  • 96 sick hours per year (may bring up to 200 hours of sick leave from current employer)
  • $75,000 life insurance on employee and $10,000 on dependents

THE COMMUNITY

CITY GOVERNMENT

Claremont is a general law city that uses the Council-Manager form of government. A general law city is one that operates under laws and rules established by the State of California.

The City Manager is hired by and responsible to the City Council. It is the responsibility of the City Manager and City staff to implement Council policies and ensure the smooth day-to-day delivery of municipal services. The City Council also appoints a City Attorney to provide legal counsel to the City organization.

The City Council is comprised of five members elected by-district for four years. The terms of offices are staggered, with three members elected at one general municipal election and two at the next. Elections are held the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March of odd-numbered years.

The City Council and staff is committed to fulfilling its mission to deliver the highest quality service possible to our community in a balanced and equitable manner. The City Council has identified the following citywide priorities:

SELECTION PROCESS:

Recruitment may close after a sufficient number of qualified applicants is received. All application materials will be thoroughly reviewed, and those applicants whose background and experience most closely match the needs of the Administrative Services Department will be invited to an oral interview tentatively scheduled on Thursday, July 10, 2025. Those candidates scoring 70% and above on the oral exam will be placed on an eligibility list.
