Job summary

Ohio Department of Public Safety – Director's Office/Information Technology is seeking an Information Technology Supervisor 3 to lead the Security Operations Group, overseeing staff who design and integrate computer systems and security measures. The role is based in Columbus, OH, with full-time hours and a 8:00am–5:00pm schedule.

The position emphasizes cybersecurity leadership, policy implementation, and collaboration with the DAS/DASD security officers to uphold standards.

What you’ll do as a Information Technology Supervisor 3:
  • Within the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) Information Technology Office (ITO) Security Operations Group (SOG), supervise information technology staff whose primary duties involve writing, analyzing & designing computer programs &/or systems integration for mainframe computer or open system.
  • Manage & direct the IT Cybersecurity Team to perform Threat Hunting, Incident Response, Vulnerability Management & Penetration Testing activities.
  • Establish & implement policies, procedures & standards to improve ODPS cybersecurity defense & security measures (e.g., system & programming standards; training, hardware & software, organization & staffing).
  • Participate in Engineering Review Board & Architecture Design reviews to ensure cybersecurity best practices & standards are utilized by all applications, networks, servers & desktop infrastructure.
  • Works with the DAS/OISP Agency Security Officer to implement cybersecurity standards, tools & policies required by the Ohio Department of Administrative Services (DAS).
  • Assist in divisional budget preparations; Make recommendations for operational & cybersecurity improvements.

Qualifications
Option 1

-Or completion of undergraduate core coursework in computer science, or completion of undergraduate core coursework in any academic major which included at least one course in each of the following: advanced-level computer programming language (for example, Cobol, Delphi, Java, Powerbuilder, Visual Basic, Pl 1, SAS PCS, Pacbase, Full Visual Suite, Designer 2000, Developer 2000, C, C++, Visual C, ECL, or Visual Studio), logic-based mathematics, data base concepts (for example, Oracle, Microsoft Access, Paradox, Sybase, IMS DB, DB2, Cache, DMS, or RDMS), computer systems analysis & design, & basic data processing concepts; additional 5 1/2 years (66 mos.) exp. commensurate with job duties to be performed & knowledges & skills required as outlined in approved position description on file for position to be filled as advertised in job posting.

AND 12 mos. exp. in performing project management functions as defined in series purpose.

Project management

Supplemental Information
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Work involves operations of computer terminal for long periods of time; overtime may be required; travel may be required which may include overnight stay; may be required to be on-call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

  • This position is essential, meaning the duties this job performs are critical to the continued operations of the Ohio Department of Public Safety during a public safety emergency (OAC 123: 1-46-01 & DAS Directive HR-D-11). Whoever fills this position will be required to report for duty during any public safety emergency.
