OUR TEAM IS LOOKING FOR AN IT SPECIALIST!
Position Overview
The IT Specialist’s primary role is to provide support to our staff across our veterinary hospital locations and corporate headquarters. Veterinary United has over 500 team members and 25 locations, including Veterinary Hospitals, Boarding Centers, and our corporate offices. The successful candidate will work directly with the Director of Technology and other IT team members to support our growing technology initiatives in a high-volume ticket environment.
Hours
Full-time position, Monday through Friday, with alternating weekend on-call coverage among IT team members.
Environment
This is an in-office role, with travel to external veterinary sites for physical support when necessary.
Responsibilities
Our IT Specialist will:
- Install PCs and related equipment (monitors, network switches, etc.).
- Travel to multiple veterinary hospitals within the state.
- Log work and resolutions into the support ticketing system.
- Perform remote and on-site diagnostics for satellite veterinary offices.
- Troubleshoot network issues for wireless and wired networks.
- Assist with updating and preparing PCs for installation.
- Repair and replace computer and server hardware.
- Assist with IT inventory management through auditing and data entry.
- Train end users on technologies such as Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Basecamp, and others.
- Occasionally lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Collaborate with the IT team to implement initiatives and projects.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Candidates should have:
- A valid Michigan driver’s license.
- An associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of IT experience, with the ability to work independently.
- Familiarity with macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android.
- Strong problem-solving skills related to technology and computer issues.
- Knowledge of networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
- Understanding of IT security standards, telecom, and VOIP protocols.
- Knowledge of hardware components, peripherals, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Windows Domains, Active Directory, Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, and firewalls.
- Comfort with automation systems and learning new software quickly.
- Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Strong customer service orientation and proactive support approach.
- Veterinary or healthcare IT experience is preferred.
Advanced Certifications (Preferred)
Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, CISSP, CCNA, MCDST, or similar are a plus.
