IT Manager 1 - Mobility (Stores) - Dublin, CA

Reports to: Manager, Mobility Tower | Portfolio: Stores Delivery - Mobility

Role summary

Hands-on technical leadership role for enterprise mobility in stores. Roughly 70% technical execution (configure, troubleshoot, build, deploy, design, solution) and 30% project / leadership. Owns Android EMM/MDM solutions for a 10,000+ device estate (Zebra handheld scanners, tablets, phones). "Manager" is partly a leveling title: no direct reports at start; likely 1-2 later as the organization restructures. Need growth potential as a people manager, not a seasoned people-manager track record.

Core focus (must-haves)

• Hands-on technical depth (~70%) — Log in and configure, troubleshoot, build, and deploy; design and propose solutions in the Android ecosystem; support production and drive enhancements.
• MDM/EMM (5+ years) — SOTI MobiControl is required (zero SOTI = hard no; environment is primarily SOTI). Strong Microsoft Intune is also required (team treats Intune as a knowledge gap / "black box"). Want SOTI + strong Intune, not a pure Microsoft-only engineer. Workspace ONE / other EMM is useful context, not a substitute for SOTI.
• Android Enterprise — Environment is Android-only. Deep Android device management is mandatory. iOS-only (even on SOTI) is not considered.
• Collaboration & cross-functional delivery — Partner with Network Engineering, Security, business stakeholders, and others in a fast-paced environment; translate requirements into scalable solutions; present clearly to senior leadership.
• Leadership potential — Technical lead on small-to-medium projects (~6-7 months); mentor/accountability mindset; aptitude to grow into managing 1-2 people later. Not required to be a seasoned manager day one.

What you'll do

• Design, deploy, and support enterprise mobility solutions for 10,000+ store devices using SOTI MobiControl and Microsoft Intune (and related EMM practices).
• Own large-scale device rollout, support, and enterprise mobile app deployment / management automation.
• Apply Android Enterprise and device-management best practices; ensure security/compliance for mobile solutions.
• Act as liaison between technical and business teams: requirements, troubleshooting, solution advice, consensus, next steps, and timelines.
• Lead projects through the full lifecycle: requirements -> design/build -> test -> release/deploy -> support; create/manage plans, resources, timelines; coordinate testing, communication, training, and support.
• Collaborate on larger multi-workstream initiatives (design reviews, analysis, testing); oversee alignment to business requirements and governance standards.
• Support production systems; prioritize issues/requests; improve processes, standards, and documentation; maintain service stability.
• Analyze new/existing technologies for enhancements; plan ahead and mitigate risk.
• Work with SOTI, Microsoft, and consulting partners (e.g., Wipro, Accenture); vendor management for enhancements and production issues.
• Lead development of content and present to senior leadership; communicate effectively at all levels (including business users).
• Apply foundational understanding of application behavior at network and system levels; familiarity with ITIL and Agile.
• As the role grows: lead/mentor IT team members (e.g., Lead/Analyst, IT Applications); foster accountability and continuous improvement.

Required

• 5+ years with MDM/EMM tools, including hands-on SOTI MobiControl and strong Intune.
• Deep Android Enterprise / Android device management at meaningful scale (ideally 10,000+ devices, or comparable distributed high-volume estate).
• Strong collaboration with internal IT (network, security, etc.) and external vendors/partners.
• Bachelor's in IS/CS/related or equivalent experience.
• Strong analysis, problem-solving, organization, urgency, and written/verbal communication; ability to handle multiple workstreams.
• Technical orientation balanced with project management; track record on technical application / platform projects.
• Experience implementing and/or supporting hardware and packaged solutions.

Preferred (not hard gates)

• Retail systems / retail dynamics in a complex, integrated environment (preferred, not must). Comparable distributed, high-risk environments (e.g., healthcare/medical) count as transferable; scale and operational risk matter more than retail label alone.
• 7-10 years supporting retail systems or IT management consulting (formal band - treat as preferred range when SOTI/Android/Intune bar is met).
• Client/server hardware/software and network-component literacy.
• Cross-functional delivery with business partners; end-user mobile productivity / mobile enablement.
