Position Overview:

Location Information: Hybrid (Wichita, KS) – 3 days in office, 2 days WFH

Duration: 3 month contract to hire

Compensation: $65/hour while on contract; up to $135K conversion salary

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and dynamic Senior Systems Administrator to lead and innovate within our operations and manufacturing environments. In this player/coach role, you will design and develop architecture solutions tailored to customer requirements, leveraging VMware best practices and supporting critical infrastructure systems both in AWS and on-premises. With responsibility for managing thousands of servers (50% AWS, 50% virtual), you will act as the application owner for Veeam backups, enhance infrastructure operations, and oversee SAN management, monitoring, and terminal services. The ideal candidate will bring leadership experience, technical expertise across VMware, AWS, and Windows environments, and familiarity with tools such as Veeam, PRTG, SolarWinds, and Beyond Trust. REQUIREMENTS

• Leadership and Team Management: Proven experience in a player/coach role with leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
• Architecture Development: Expertise in designing and developing architecture based on customer requirements, adhering to VMware best practices.
• Infrastructure Management: Experience managing infrastructure systems in both AWS and on-premises environments. Familiarity with supporting thousands of servers (approx. 1,500 servers), including virtual and cloud-based systems. Strong understanding of terminal services environments, SAN management, and backup solutions.
• Technical Expertise: Proficiency with VMware ESXi (6.0–7.0), vCenter, and related virtualization technologies. Experience with AWS and hybrid cloud infrastructure. Hands-on knowledge of Windows operating systems and various Linux distributions, including CentOS (4/5/7), Red Hat Enterprise Linux (5–8), and Ubuntu. Exposure to Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2016.
• Backup and Monitoring: Application owner experience for Veeam, including backup strategy development and infrastructure improvements. Familiarity with monitoring tools such as PRTG, SolarWinds, and Beyond Trust for security and system oversight.
• Operations Background: Experience working in operations or manufacturing environments, supporting critical applications and systems.
• Additional Skills: Knowledge of remote access, password management, and monitoring tools. A detail-oriented approach to managing and improving critical infrastructure.
