Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE)

Apex Systems is seeking an Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to support the US Air Force at the Pentagon. Interested candidates should email their resume to [e-mail].

Location: Fully onsite at the Pentagon

Hours: M-F, 8-hour shifts between 6AM-6PM

Compensation: $145,000-$155,000/year

Job type: Long-term contract

Clearance: Must be a US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance

Certifications: Must have Security+

Overview: Seeking experienced IT professionals to provide cybersecurity and security engineering services, including system security engineering, risk assessments, and security architecture support. The ISSE will perform or review technical security assessments to identify vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Participate as the primary security engineering representative on engineering teams
• Support security planning, assessment, risk analysis, and management
• Experience with RMF, NIST SP 800-53, STIGs, and SCAP compliance
• Prepare and review documentation such as Risk Assessment Reports and Security Accreditation Packages
• Manage Continuous Monitoring and POAMs
• Knowledge of SIPR and JWICS A&A processes
• Document security controls and artifacts supporting RMF and ICD 503
• Interact with customers and project team members
• Develop and implement security designs for networks and systems
• Identify security needs and define requirements
• Mitigate vulnerabilities and recommend changes
• Work with system administrators on patching and security tools
• Review software installation requests and conduct risk assessments
• Build, deploy, and patch HBSS Windows and ACAS Linux servers
• Manage security tools like ePO, Security Center, and Nessus
• Experience with vulnerability remediation and licensing processes
• Deploy and troubleshoot security scanners and sensors

Required Qualifications:

• TS//SCI security clearance
• Security+
• 7+ years in systems engineering, including design and architecture
• Ability to identify security risks across systems
• Effective communication and organizational skills
• Initiative and ability to work independently
• Strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with eMASS and Xacta
• Ability to run SCAP scans on Windows and RHEL
• Knowledge of license procurement for HBSS ePO and Tenable
• Understanding of security principles and risk assessment techniques
