Primary Function

Responsible for ensuring IT systems maintain the appropriate security posture in accordance with NIST and FBI policy/guidance. Analyze and define security requirements for on-premises and cloud environment IT systems. Design, develop, engineer, and implement solutions that meet security requirements. Responsible for the integration and implementation of IT system security solutions under the guidance of the ISSO and Government personnel. Perform risk analyses during all phases of the system development life cycle and security reviews. Collaborate with engineers, administrators, and technical experts to ensure compliance with security policies. Participate as a security engineering representative on engineering teams for IA architectures, systems, or components.

Essential Functions

• Assist in designing and implementing security architectures to protect information systems and networks, ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices.
• Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address vulnerabilities.
• Ensure systems meet standards such as FISMA, NIST, and federal guidelines; assist in certification and accreditation processes.
• Respond to security incidents, coordinate investigations, and implement corrective actions.
• Provide guidance and training to junior security engineers.
• Oversee deployment of security technologies like firewalls, IDS/IPS, and encryption solutions.
• Develop and monitor security programs, policies, and procedures, and recommend improvements.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Support IT systems in a cybersecurity engineering role adhering to NIST and FBI policies.
• Understanding of NIST SP 800-53, DOJ/FBI policies, and industry best practices.
• Experience with security evaluations, procedures, and documentation.
• Knowledge of security tools, hardware/software security, communication protocols, and encryption techniques.
• Ability to support security operations, planning, monitoring, and incident response.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret Clearance with ability to obtain SCI, if required.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in relevant fields or 8+ years’ experience supporting IT security.
• 5+ years’ experience in cybersecurity roles supporting classified/unclassified systems.
• Certifications such as CISSP, GISP, CASP, or equivalent (DoD 8570.1 IAM Level III).
