Kratos has a new opportunity for an experienced Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) to support the development of new information systems and to bolster the cybersecurity posture of legacy systems. This role will develop and implement technical solutions to complex cybersecurity requirements. This position is based on multiple DoD Directives, including DoD 5205.07 volumes 1–4; DoDD 5205.02E; DoDI 5025.01, 5205.11, 5200.39, 5220.22, DoDM 3305.13; DoD 8140 series; Intelligence Community Directive Series 500/600/700; NIST 800 series publications; Executive Orders 13556 and 13636; the Joint Special Access Program Implementation Guide Rev 4; and DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides.

Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. U.S. citizenship is required. Travel to customer sites and other program locations will be necessary.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Design and develop comprehensive system security architecture to satisfy NIST requirements, working with engineering teams.
  2. Provide expert technical support across all cybersecurity portfolio areas.
  3. Support Authorization to Operate (ATO) activities by interfacing with cybersecurity disciplines.
  4. Incorporate engineering strategies for integrating new technology into established systems.
  5. Perform cost-benefit analyses to determine optimal solutions using manual, software, or hardware functions, emphasizing commercial off-the-shelf components.
  6. Apply knowledge of enterprise IT or engineering needs to improve processes.
  7. Develop, execute, and monitor security measures to protect information and network infrastructure.
  8. Identify, define, and document system security requirements; recommend solutions to management.
  9. Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain security infrastructure software and hardware.
  10. Coordinate security policies and internal access with IT Operations leadership.
  11. Ensure compliance with security policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
  12. Evaluate and recommend security and equipment updates as needed.
  13. Maintain technical documentation.
  14. Research emerging security threats and mitigation methods.
  15. Develop and execute Security Test and Evaluation plans.
  16. Support certification and accreditation processes.
  17. Recommend system enhancements to address security deficiencies.
  18. Develop, test, and integrate security tools.
  19. Conduct security audits and develop risk mitigation strategies based on RMF.
  20. Support the development and implementation of security architectures for evolving security requirements.
  21. Assist in incident response investigations.
  22. Perform vulnerability assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
  23. Represent the cybersecurity team in working groups and industry events.
  24. Participate in business development activities as needed.
  25. Travel to remote locations as required.
Experience and Skills
  • 7–10+ years of cybersecurity experience.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with NIST control requirements and supporting programs through design reviews.
  • Experience with AWS cloud environments, FedRAMP, and cloud security best practices.
  • Experience with SIEM solutions like Graylog and Splunk, Trellix ESS/ENS.
  • Expertise in NIST Risk Management Framework.
  • Cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent.
  • Ability to prepare detailed artifacts for ATO support.
  • Knowledge of emerging IT and cybersecurity technologies.
  • Proficiency in network engineering, system architecture, and design.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Active TS SCI security clearance.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Familiarity with security tools like ACAS, Nessus, and Splunk.
  • Experience with agile methodologies, Jira, Confluence.
  • Knowledge of containerization, zero trust frameworks, JSIG, Linux, and satellite ground systems.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $125,000–$180,000, based on experience and education. The position offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision insurance, life and disability coverage, 401(k), stock purchase plans, paid time off, holidays, and education reimbursement.
