UNMAS Syria Programme in Damascus is seeking an Information Management and Analytics Associate to ensure accurate data for operations. The role focuses on data entry, validation, cleaning, archiving, and producing information products such as maps and reports to support decision-making and mine action activities.
The successful candidate will help implement IM processes and SOPs, maintain archives, support IMSMA Core migrations, and assist with data queries and capacity-building initiatives.
Organizational context: The UNMAS Syria Programme, based in Damascus, is a key UN entity coordinating humanitarian mine action and enabling safe access for operations. It collaborates with the Syrian Government and leads the Mine Action Area of Responsibility. Operating under UN Security Council resolutions, UNMAS addresses the significant threat of explosive ordnance contamination and its impact on civilians.
Job purpose: The Information Management and Analytics Associate supports the UNMAS Syria Programme by ensuring the accuracy and availability of data for operational and programmatic needs. This involves meticulous data entry, validation, cleaning, and archiving of mine action reports and related information. The role contributes to the production of standard information products, such as maps and reports, which are crucial for effective decision-making, reporting, and the overall mission of mitigating explosive ordnance risks and supporting survivors in Syria.
Responsibilities: The Information Management and Analytics Associate is responsible for supporting the operational activities of the Information Management (IM) function. This includes assisting in the definition and implementation of IM processes and Standard Operating Procedures, with a strong focus on data entry, verification, cleaning, and quality checks of mine action reports. The role involves maintaining organized physical and digital archives, supporting database maintenance and backups, and assisting in testing data collection tools. Additionally, the associate will respond to data queries, help organize meetings and workshops, support information sharing, and assist with data cleaning and formatting for migration to IMSMA Core. The position also provides administrative and technical support for capacity-building activities and training, and contributes to the production of standard maps and reports.
Education: A Master's degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Information Management, Computer Sciences, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree with two years of relevant experience, or a High School Diploma with five years of relevant experience, is acceptable.
Work experience: Required experience includes providing information management support, proficiency with spreadsheets (MS Excel) and structured data entry, and experience in data verification and cleaning. Desired experience includes mine action or humanitarian information management, data migration, knowledge of IMSMA, SQL, PostgreSQL, or GIS tools, and experience with governmental institutions, UN, or NGOs.
