Job summary

The Reno County Government seeks an Information and Outreach Program Coordinator to serve adults aged 60 and older, and their families, ensuring aging programs and communications are accurate and easy to understand. You will help people make informed choices by listening to concerns and connecting them with resources.

You will also represent the department at meetings and advocate for older adults, fostering visibility and active community engagement across local and statewide events.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of postsecondary education in communications, public relations, marketing, community development or related field with relevant experience.
  • One year of experience working with adults 60+ and/or persons with disabilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or five years of related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Present aging programs, services and information clearly and impartially.
  • Listen to concerns, identify needs, and connect individuals with resources.
  • Enhance department visibility and promote community engagement.
  • Represent the department at local and statewide meetings and events.

Skills

Experience with older adults (60+)

Education

High school diploma or GED
Two years of postsecondary education in communications/public relations/marketing
Bachelor’s degree in Gerontology/Business/Counseling or related field or 5 years’ experience in information/services
Valid Kansas Driver’s License

Job Purpose and Objectives

The Information and Outreach Program Coordinator (IOPC) serves adults age 60 and older, as well as their families and caregivers, by ensuring that the Department of Aging’s programs, services, and communications are presented accurately, effectively, and impartially in clear, easy-to-understand language. The position supports informed, self-directed decision‑making by listening to individual concerns, identifying needs, and connecting individuals with appropriate information and resources. The IOPC enhances the department’s visibility, promotes community engagement, and advances its mission of serving older adults and those who support them. Additionally, the coordinator represents the department at local and statewide meetings, presentations, conferences, and other aging‑related events and advocates for the interests and needs of adults age 60 and older.

Position Requirements
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of two years of postsecondary education in communications, public relations, marketing, community development, public administration, or a related field, and relevant experience in public information, community outreach, or program coordination. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • One (1) year of experience working with adults 60 and older and or persons with disabilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Gerontology, Business, Counseling, or related field, or five (5) years of work experience with information, social services or related field preferred.
  • Employee is responsible for obtaining and maintaining all certification requirements relative to the position.
Certifications / Licenses
  • Must possess a valid Kansas Driver’s License.
