Qualifications

• Current licensure in Washington or MS licensure in nursing, or a degree in public health/epidemiology.
• Problem solving abilities and organizational skills.

• Knowledge of principles of epidemiology, infection prevention and control.
• Skill in time management.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.

Responsibilities

• Performs infection surveillance including review of laboratory and other clinical reports; review of medical records; observation in the clinical area.
• Establishes and maintains surveillance data for healthcare acquired infections per the annual surveillance plan as determined by the Infection Control Committee.
• Performs walk around infection prevention and control inspections within appropriate time frames with meaningful and accurate reports of areas and processes that are of high quality and those in need of improvement.
• Identifies opportunities for improvement based on observations, process and outcome indicators, and other findings.
• Has good knowledge of regulations and standards regarding infection control and participates in regulatory surveys as needed.
• Inspects, consults with and is a resource to other disciplines, departments and agencies to identify problems. Implements corrective action, and evaluates its effectiveness in the improvement of patient care quality and regulatory compliance.
• Provides education that relates to infection control, prevention and epidemiology for healthcare providers, staff, patients and families.
• Manages communicable disease cases and conducts outbreak investigations.
• Reviews current literature and is aware of trends and issues.
• Attends educational sessions to further enhance skills and knowledge.
• Participates in committee and program support.
• Deals appropriately with sensitive confidential information contained in events, medical records, reports and other documents.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.
