Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Designated Security Representative to strengthen industrial security posture and manage collateral facilities. You will collaborate with the FSO, SECD, ISSOs, and program staff to ensure compliance with DoW/NISPOM and 32 CFR 117, while guiding sector security initiatives and education.

Responsibilities include incident remediation, training, liaison duties, and coordination of security investigations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with at least two years of relevant experience in security operations.
• Two years of relevant experience in a security-related role, such as Industrial Security Specialist or Designated Security Representative.
• Working knowledge of DoW security processes and 32 CFR 117 (NISPOM) requirements for industry.
• Strong organizational and communication skills across all staff levels, including contractors and sponsors.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to multitask and deliver high-quality security products and services.
• Must complete CDSE curricula for Facility (FSO) Orientation ISO30.CU and adverse information training within 12 months of hire.
• Eligible for Interim Secret clearance by start date and ultimately TS clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Support sector leadership in implementing security initiatives and oversee clearance processes and incident remediation.
• Lead and maintain a security education and awareness program for the Sector staff.
• Liaise between program staff and the FSO to meet security needs and provide policy guidance.
• Ensure staff understand security responsibilities, including clearances, safe checks, and foreign visitor processes.
• Assist in preparation for DCSA Security Review and internal APL assessments.
• Coordinate and document security violation investigations and track corrective actions.
• Respond to security data calls and assist in sector-level reporting to leadership.
• Attend Labwide security meetings and disseminate best practices across the sector.
