Job summary

Mass Electric Construction Co. (MEC) is seeking an Entry Level Safety Specialist to create, support and audit our safety programs under the MEC Industrial District.

You will work under the Safety department to reinforce our “Nobody Gets Hurt” commitment and supervise daily field activities. Responsibilities include developing and communicating the Site Safety and Health Plan (SSSP), assisting with hazard inspections, incident investigations, and delivering training on OSHA/MSHA standards.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field is preferred.
• Knowledge of construction safety and current Federal and OSHA requirements.
• Certification as a Safety Professional or Emergency Medical Technician preferred.
• Working knowledge of computers; experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational and time management skills; good written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team; attention to detail.
• Willing to travel/relocate as needed for project work.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing, reviewing, updating, and communicating the SSSP to subcontractors.
• Collaborate with craft daily to promote buy-in of the safety program.
• Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to ensure adherence to policies and plans.
• Plan and problem-solve with operations based on leading indicators.
• Support staff and craft to execute the SSSP.
• Maintain project files per OSHA/MSHA regulations and company policies.
• Assist with incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Complete daily hazard inspections and implement corrective actions.
• Review work plans and provide safety training on policies and requirements.
