Job summary

Packaging Corporation of America seeks a Health and Safety Specialist for the Gladstone, VA Riverville Paper Mill. You will develop and implement programs for accident prevention, conduct site safety audits, and ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety laws.

The role demands strong communication, training delivery, and teamwork across multiple facilities, with EMT certification being a plus as you lead emergency response and safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, environmental engineering, occupational health and safety, or a related field.
• 2 years’ experience in the safety field preferred; manufacturing experience is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, Workers' Comp laws, EPA regulations, and industrial hygiene.
• Familiar with safety-related equipment and calibration tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities with cross‑level interfacing.
• Capable of preparing and presenting training sessions to mill employees.
• Certified EMT would be a plus.
• Experience working in a team environment and effective information sharing.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the mill-wide safety committee and Emergency Response team.
• Coordinate, develop, update and deliver safety training across facilities.
• Implement corporate safety policies to comply with OSHA and health laws.
• Work with the Site Worker Compensation Administrator to manage claims.
• Lead audit teams to identify pre-accident trends and take corrective actions.
• Maintain records and deliver reports to management on safety metrics.
• Support plant emergency operations and OSHA compliance.
