Job summary

The Weitz Company is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our Industrial team in Cedar Rapids, IA. You will assist in profitably managing all administrative and field construction activities on assigned projects, reporting to the Project Manager, with some travel expected.

Required: industry degree and 2–5 years PM experience; LEAN a plus; OSHA 10/30 preferred or willingness to obtain. Proficiency in MS Office and construction software is expected.

Qualifications

• Education: industry-related college degree required; equivalent combo of education and experience considered.
• Experience: 2–5 years construction project management required; LEAN desirable.
• Certifications: OSHA 10 or 30 preferred, or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Profitably manages a small project independently, or a larger project with PM oversight.
• Assists with creating and updating the project schedule.
• Negotiates, issues and executes subcontract and vendor change orders within delegated authority.
• Prices and negotiates owner change orders within delegated authority.
• Approves subcontractor and vendor pay applications.
• Assists in the preconstruction and buy-out processes.
• Drafts scopes of work for subcontracts and/or purchase order agreements.
• Assists in preparing and implementing the project plan and updates.
• Monitors material and equipment deliveries to ensure awareness of status and potential schedule impacts.
• Ensures subcontract agreements and amendments are issued and followed up.
• Understands contract terms and obligations to keep work in scope.
• Assists in resolving issues with subcontractors, vendors, architects and owners.
• Contributes to on-time or ahead-of-schedule project completion with profitability.
• Oversees RFI process; coordinates with project team; verifies impact and pricing.
• Completes monthly project status reports, owner billings and financial risk assessments.
• Assists with project proposals and presentations as requested.
