Job summary

Austin Energy is seeking an Operations & Maintenance Specialist to operate and maintain electrical, steam, and chilled water equipment across multiple plants in Austin. The role includes equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, and responding to emergency conditions with a focus on safety and reliability.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma with several years of utility operations experience, a valid Texas driver license, and the ability to work varying shifts including nights

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience in a field related to installation, operation, and/or maintenance of utility facilities power, steam, or chiller operation.
• Valid Texas Class C driver license or ability to obtain within ninety days of employment.
• Experience with operation and maintenance of boiler, turbine, generator, HVAC, electrical, or related systems.

Responsibilities

• Installs, tests, debugs, and repairs complex utility equipment; calibrates sensors, controllers, and meters.
• Monitors equipment operation; reads gauges and meters; starts up and shuts down diesel generator units.
• Performs preventive maintenance and planned work with required tools, parts, and labor.
• Disassembles and reassembles complex mechanical components and conducts safety checks.
