Job summary

Bassett Mechanical is seeking an experienced estimator to develop accurate cost estimates for design/build and plan/spec mechanical construction projects, with a primary focus on piping systems.

Responsibilities include reviewing drawings, conducting site visits, performing quantity takeoffs, and coordinating with Business Development and operations to determine bid strategy and pricing. Strong knowledge of piping, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, and sheet metal systems is essential.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of commercial and industrial mechanical construction estimating principles and practices.
• Experience estimating piping systems and related mechanical construction work preferred.
• Working knowledge of industrial and process piping systems, refrigeration (ammonia), HVAC, plumbing, and sheet metal systems.

Responsibilities

• Receive estimate requests from internal teams or bid opportunities and determine bid strategy.
• Prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial/industrial mechanical projects, focusing on piping systems.
• Review drawings/specs/contracts to define scope, risks, and pricing.
• Conduct site visits, gather field data, and participate in pre-bid walkthroughs.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, fabrication, and subcontracted work.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
• Develop labor estimates and apply productivity factors, contingencies, overhead, and markups.
• Prepare bid proposals and pricing packages aligned with project objectives.
• Participate in estimate reviews and bid strategy discussions with stakeholders.
• Maintain estimating records and bid summaries in designated systems.
• Support project turnover and change order pricing as needed.
