Job summary

Austin Industries, Inc. in Decatur, IL is seeking a pipefitter to lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and related equipment for industrial production.

Responsibilities include cutting, threading, attaching pipes, measuring, planning layouts, selecting materials, and inspecting work sites. 3-5 years journeyman level experience required; legally authorized to work in the United States. Qualifications

• 3-5 years of Journeyman level piping experience.
• Experience with pipe layouts, installation, and maintenance.
• Must be able to read and follow specifications.

Responsibilities

• Cut, thread, and hammer pipe to specifications, using saws, torches, and threaders.
• Attach pipes to walls, structures and fixtures using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment.
• Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
• Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
• Select pipe sizes and types and related materials according to specifications.
• Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, and related machines and equipment.
• Install automatic controls used to regulate pipe systems.
• Turn valves to shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections.
• Remove and replace worn components.
• Inspect work sites for obstructions and to ensure that holes will not cause structural weakness.
• Operate motorized pumps to remove water from flooded manholes, basements, or facility floors.
• Dip nonferrous piping materials in a mixture of molten tin and lead to obtain a coating.
• Other duties as assigned.
