Job summary

Stewart & Stevenson is seeking an experienced Painter II to prepare, paint, and finish parts in our Houston area facility. You will read blueprints and work orders, select appropriate coatings, mix materials, and apply finishes to meet quality standards.

This role requires 1–3 years of industrial painting experience, strong safety practices, and the ability to work with minimal supervision while supporting training for entry-level painters.

Qualifications

• Read blueprints, travelers, and work orders.
• Know industrial paint types and surface preparation methods.
• Mix and apply coatings per specification.
• Maintain safety practices and PPE usage.
• Basic computer literacy for work orders/documentation.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform surface preparation, masking, sanding, and cleaning of parts.
• Set up, adjust, and operate spray guns and related painting equipment.
• Mix paints, primers, and coatings to specifications.
• Inspect coatings and identify common defects.
• Maintain paint booths and equipment; follow production schedules.
• Assist training Level I painters as needed.
• Safely use solvents and chemicals per SDS; follow safety standards.
