Stewart & Stevenson is hiring a Painter II in Houston, TX for an intermediate-level role responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing parts to meet quality standards.

The ideal candidate will read blueprints, interpret work orders, and apply coatings such as epoxy, urethane, or powder coat. Safety and accuracy are essential; a high school diploma or GED preferred with 1–3 years of experience.

Qualifications

• Read blueprints, travelers, and work orders.
• Knowledge of epoxy, urethane, powder coat, and primers.
• Ability to mix, measure, and apply coatings per specification.
• Strong safety practices and PPE use.
• Basic computer literacy for completing work orders or documentation.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform surface preparation, masking, sanding, and cleaning of parts.
• Set up, adjust, and operate spray guns and related painting equipment correctly.
• Mix paints, primers, and coatings to specifications without supervision.
• Select appropriate paint types based on job requirements.
• Inspect coated surfaces and identify defects such as runs, sags, and orange peel.
• Maintain paint booths, spray guns, and related equipment.
• Follow production schedules and meet quality/efficiency targets.
• Assist with training Level I painters as needed.
• Safely use solvents and chemicals per SDS guidelines.
• Perform all work in accordance with safety policies and quality standards.
